The Rosary Challenge

During October, we take part in ‘The Rosary Challenge’ organised by the Mark 10 Mission. This aims to encourage over a quarter of a million children to pray the Rosary together during October.

Children are encouraged to bring in their own rosary beads to school to help them to participate in this challenge as we will be saying a decade of the Rosary together in class every day in October. Below is a link to the ‘Rosary Tracker’ for you to use at home too if you wish to participate. Further information about this challenge can be found here: The Mark 10 Mission - The Rosary Challenge

Mark 10 Mission: Rosary Tracker

Mark 10 Mission: Rosary Mission

What is the Rosary?

In the Catholic Church, May and October are months traditionally dedicated to Mary, the mother of God and the Rosary.  The Rosary is a form of prayer that helps us to reflect on the life of Mary and Jesus.

How to pray the Rosary?

What is a decade of the Rosary?

A decade of the Rosary is:

1 x Our Father

10 x Hail Mary

1 x Glory Be

During each decade we reflect upon one of the mystery stories. Mysteries are moments in the life of Jesus and Mary.

There are four Mysteries, each with five stories:

Rosary Bags

The Head boy and Girl have been busy preparing the Rosary bags to go home to families. Each night a child takes the bag home and sets up a prayer focus using the resources in the bag. They then lead prayer time with their family.

Saying a decade of The Rosary in Class

In EYFS and Year 1/2, a special Bumblebee and Panda is added to the home bags. Panda and Bumblebee join in with Rosary sessions in school too.

Classes have focused on a different mystery each day, support by the Mark 10 Mission videos.

During this special month, Deacon Wayne visited every class to lead children in a decade of the Rosary.

During this special month, Caroline Moulinet, the Lay Chaplin for the St John Southworth Catholic Academy Trust, led a special Rosary assembly. She told us all about the history of the Rosary and lead the whole school in saying a decade of the Rosary, supported by the Pupil Chaplaincy Team.

Praying a decade of The Rosary at home

Children take the Rosary Challenge Bag home daily to pray a decade of the Rosary at home. As well as praying, it inspires children to reflect upon their faith and what it means to be a follower of Jesus.
