Care of Creation

Laudato Si’ is an encyclical (letter) written by Pope Francis, published on the 18 June 2015. In his letter, Pope Francis discusses the damage being inflicted on the Earth by humans and calls on ‘every person living on this planet’ to make urgent changes to our lifestyles in order to protect the planet.

Pope Francis asks us to work together to create a better world for future generations and to make the necessary changes in our lives in order to take care of, respect and value our ‘common home’.

In school we reflected on how we are stewards for this amazing world and how God has entrusted us to care for this incredible environment.

Our Planet Need You!

As part of our commitment to caring for God's creation, 5/6 took part in a litter picking challenge. Did you know that over 2 million pieces of rubbish are dropped every day? We are working to limit those numbers by cleaning up our local area. We had so much fun working in teams to collect as much rubbish as we could in a park close to our school.

Year 5/6 Art: Care of Creation

Inspired by Pope Francis' call to care for creation, Year 5/6 pupils explored the beauty of our common home through art. Once finished, pupils read from the book of Genesis in the Bible and added relevant scripture passages to their art. Their work reminds us of our shared responsibility to protect and cherish the world around us.

Gardening Club: Growing God's Garden

After preparing the beds, planting and watering, our Gardening Club have produced another successful harvest. As well as taking the harvest home to cook, some also went into the school kitchen or was sold at the summer fair.

Beat the Street: Looking after our planet

Our school took part in the 'Beat the Street' challenge which focused on reducing pollution as we found alternative ways to travel. In walking, scooting and cycling, we were able to spend more time enjoying the beauty of God's creation in our local area. We were so successful that we won the challenge in our local area!

Year 5/6 Young London Print Project

Our pupils excelled in the Young London Print Prize, an award that raises awareness of climate issues through art and promotes stewardship of creation. We are thrilled to share two pupils were winners: one received the School Award, and another achieved 3rd Place overall, with his artwork displayed on the iconic lights of Piccadilly Circus and later exhibited at Woolwich Art Gallery.

Through their creativity, our pupils inspire others to protect the planet, reflecting a commitment to sustainability, climate action, and the stewardship of creation. We are proud of their dedication to making a positive impact!
